I went into a fight with a friend by my side
We were moving like a unit under blinding light
When the s moke had cleared it didn’t feel too good
I just had to have a drink to dampen my self destructive mood
There were old friends on the ground, aching, faking higher ground and taking
part in celebrating our triumph on the field, pleading bygones be just that
I’m a cowboy with no hat


I rode in on a horse
chased friends and foes away from me
Myself to blame, always of course
but that is how it has to be
If I’m to finally be me
And free

Went away by myself with a bottle in hand
Didn’t care didn’t dare to reach out to no man
Looking deep in the bottle pushing people away
Found no comfort in my solace so I started stepping backwards
Trying hard to find my feet, kept on slipping, sipping zig-zag stepping
drinks on every surface that I was walking by, My demeanor getting coarse
I am a cowboy, where’s my horse?

I hung out with a bunch who were fine with my flaws
They would cheer and revere ev’ry move that I made
All they got was my dismissal and the view of my back
I was tempted by a devil in a suit of finest velvet
But the fog would slowly lift, I got wiser, nicer, realiser
My new friends were real friends and they helped me slay the fiend, with a buck shot to his neck
I’m a cowboy, what the heck

Got my things in order, though I still enjoy a drink
I’m the leader of my own path
Now my fuse may be shorter, than some people might think
If you light it, you will feel my wrath
